Durian - The King of Fruits Guide

For a typical person, never did you realise that there are so many type of durians, differentiated by its flesh colour, smell, look and taste. Let's update your general knowledge.

************************************************************
Chaer Phoy (Green Skin Durian) - Chaer Phoy is shaped like a small canteloupe. The skin is bright green, giving it the name which means "green skin". Chaer Phoy has creamy white flesh which is a bit dry, not too sweet but tasty.

Bak Eu (Pork Fat Durian) - Bak Eu has a slightly acidic aroma. The flesh is whitish while the taste is qite bitter but nice.

Ang Jin (Red Yoke Durian) - As the name suggests, Ang Jin Durian has deep orange flesh. It is very sweet and tasty.

D604 - The D604 was first cultivated by the late Mr. Teh Hew Hong of Sungai Pinang, Balik Pulau. The flesh is quite sweet, and has some "body" to it as the seed is small. D700 - The flesh is darker than D600, like chrome yellow. Also slightly hard. Crispy, but the smell is not very strong.
D600 - This durian originates in Sungai Pinang in Balik Pulau. The flesh has a bittersweet taste to it, with a touch of sourness. The one that I documented is a bit hard.

D17 - D17 is dark cream flesh. The taste is slightly dry but sweet. It is a tasty durian.

D11 - "Number Eleven" is a very popular durian in the 70's. It has creamy yellow flesh with a pleasant taste and a subtle smell.
I came across this email write-up and decided to share it over here so that everyone can realise of THE POWER OF CONFIDENCE in our life.

Confidence

The business executive was deep in debt and could see no wayout. Creditors were closing in on him.Suppliers were demanding payment. He sat on the park bench, head in hands, wondering if anything couldsave his company from bankruptcy.Suddenly an old man appeared before him.'I can see that something is troubling you,' he said.

After listening to the executive's woes, the old man said, 'I believe I can help you.'He asked the man his name, wrote out a check, and pushed it into hishand saying, 'Take this money. Meet me here exactly one year fromtoday, and you can pay me back at that time.' Then he turned and disappeared as quickly as he had come. The business executive saw in his hand a check for $500,000, signed byJohn D. Rockefeller, then one of the richest men in the world! 'I can erase my money worries in an instant!' he realized. But instead, the executive decided to put the uncashed check in hissafe. Just knowing it was there might give him the strength to workout a way to save his business, he thought. With renewed optimism, he negotiated better deals and extended terms of payment. He closed several big sales.Within a few months, he was out of debt and making money once again.

Exactly one year later, he returned to the park with the uncashed check. At the agreed-upon time, the old man appeared. But just as the executive was about to hand back the check and share his successstory, a nurse came running up and grabbed the old man.'I'm so glad I caught him!' she cried. 'I hope he hasn't beenbothering you. He's always escaping from the rest home and telling people he's John D. Rockefeller.'And she led the old man away by the arm.

The astonished executive just stood there, stunned. All year long he'd been wheeling and dealing, buying and selling, convinced he had half a million dollars behind him. Suddenly, he realized that it wasn't the money, real or imagined, that had turnedhis life around. It was his newfound self-confidence that gave him the power toachieve anything he went after.

Credit Card - Please Beware.

Dear reader, I would like to share the below articles with all you who I believe would have at least one credit card. Please take a precaution when using credit card to prevent fraud.

SCENE 1.

This is a new one. People sure stay busy trying to cheat us, don't they? A friend went to the local gym and placed his belongings in the locker. After the workout and a shower, he came out, saw the locker open, and thought to himself, 'Funny, I thought I locked the locker. Hmm, 'He dressed and just flipped the wallet to make sure all was in order. Everything looked okay - all cards were in place. A few weeks later his credit card bill came - a whooping bill of $14,000! He called the credit card company and started yelling at them, saying that he did not make the transactions. Customer care personnel verified that there was no Mistake in the system and asked if his card had been stolen. 'No,' he said, but then took out his wallet, pulled out the credit card, and yep - you guessed it - a switch had been made. An expired similar credit card from the same bank was in the wallet. The thief broke into his locker at the gym and switched cards. Verdict: The credit card issuer said since he did not report the card missing earlier, he would have to pay the amount owed to them. How much did he have to pay for items he did not buy? $9,000! Why were there no calls made to verify the amount swiped? Small amounts rarely trigger a 'warning bell' with some credit card companies. It just so happens that all the small amounts added up to big one!

SCENE 2.

A man at a local restaurant paid for his meal with his credit card. The bill for the meal came, he signed it,and the waitress folded the receipt and passed the credit card along. Usually, he would just take it and place it in his wallet or pocket. Funny enough, though, he actually took a look at the card and, lo and behold, it was the expired card of another person. He called the waitress and she looked perplexed. She took it back, apologized, and hurried back to the counter under the watchful eye of the man. All the waitress did while walking to the counter was wave the wrong expired card to the counter cashier, and the counter cashier immediately looked down and took out the real card. No exchange of words --- nothing! She took it and came back to the man with an apology. Verdict:Make sure the credit cards in your wallet are yours. Check the name on the card every time you sign for something and/or the card is taken away for even a short period of time. Many people just take back the credit card without even looking at it, 'assuming' that it has to be theirs. FOR YOUR OWN SAKE, DEVELOP THE HABIT OF CHECKING YOUR CREDIT CARD EACH TIME IT IS RETURNED TO YOU AFTER A TRANSACTION!

SCENE 3:

Yesterday I went into a pizza restaurant to pick up an order that I had called in. I paid by using my Visa Check Card which, of course, is linked directly to my checking account. The young man behind the counter took my card, swiped it, then laid it on the counter as he waited for the approval, which is pretty standard procedure. While he waited, he picked up his cell phone and started dialing. I noticed the phone because it is the same model I have, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Then I heard a click that sounded like my phone sounds when I take a picture. He then gave me back my card but kept the phone in his hand as if he was still pressing buttons. Meanwhile, I'm thinking: I wonder what he is taking a picture of, oblivious to what was really going on. It then dawned on me: the only thing there was my credit card, so now I'm paying close attention to what he i s doing. He set his phone on the counter, leaving it open. About five seconds later, I heard the chime that tells you that the picture has been saved. Now I'm standing there struggling with the fact that this boy just took a picture of my credit card. Yes, he played it off well, because had we not had the same kind of phone, I probably would never have known what happened. Needless to say, I immediately canceled that card as I was walking out of the pizza parlor. All I am saying is, be aware of your surroundings at all times.Whenever you are using your credit card take caution and don't be careless. Notice who is standing near you and what they are doing when you use your card. Be aware of phones, because many have a camera phone these days. When you are in a restaurant and the waiter/waitress brings your card and receipt for you to sign, make sure you scratch the number off. Some restaurants are using only the last four digits, but a lot of them are still putting the whole thing on there. I have already been a victim of credit card fraud and, believe me, it is not fun. The truth is that they can get you even when you are careful, but don't make it easy for them.

Melamine: Unilevel, Dutch Lady & Nestle Products In Malaysia Are SAFE.

Thanks God. At least as a parent, we are relieved of the announcement by the milk producer companies and Malaysia government that they did not use ingredients from China nor import milk from China.

I have a 5-months old baby who is consuming Nestle NAN 1 milk powder. Last few days, I was in dilemma whether to let my baby continue to consume the milk or not, after hearing short news from TV that one of Nestle's product in Hong Kong had been found containing Melamine.

I can't stop giving milk to my baby as this is her main source of food right now. Replacing to other brand of milk powder also not a good idea. No one knows whether they are free of melamine or not.

Feel free to leave your comment or share your feeling being in such situation. Below is an article extracted from The Star newpaper dated September 23, 2008, which give more update and assurance for us in Malaysia.

PETALING JAYA: Major supermarket chains are in the midst of checking their inventories to remove products which may contain milk ingredients from China.

However, they have not received any instruction from the Health Ministry regarding the widened ban on confectionery with milk, chocolate, milk chocolate and white chocolate which contain milk from China.

Tesco’s corporate and legal affairs director Azlam Shah Alias said: “Our technical team is checking our inventory now. If a product is found to have any of the banned ingredient, we will take it off the shelves.”

Carrefour will also adhere to directives sent by the ministry, said its public relations director Raf Adiba Radzi.

“But we have yet to receive one from the ministry,” she said, adding that the ministry had given general directives like this in the past but “not necessarily for milk products”.

On Friday, Singapore’s Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) advised consumers to avoid buying “White Rabbit Creamy Candy”, “Yili Brand Fruit Bar Yogurt” flavoured ice confectionery and “Dutch Lady” strawberry-flavoured milk after they were found to contain melamine.
Retailers and importers were also ordered to not sell milk, ice-cream, yoghurt, confections like chocolates, biscuits and sweets containing milk from China.

Unilever (Malaysia) Holdings, Dutch Lady and Nestle have all released statements saying that their products in Malaysia used milk or whey powder from the Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

Local firm Hai-O was surprised that the “Monmilk” brand under Mengniu would also be banned, adding that it had just signed a distribution deal with the Chinese firm.

“We are very surprised. Mengniu is supposed to be one of the top firms in China, with stringent quality controls,” said a Hai-O representative.

Nestle Confident Its Chinese Products Are Safe

GENEVA (AFP) - - Swiss food giant Nestle on Sunday said it was "confident" that its products in China were safe, after media reports suggested that its products were laced with a chemical that killed four babies in China.
"Following press reports in Hong Kong earlier today claiming that traces of melamine had been found in a Nestle growing up milk, Nestle is confident that none of its products in China is made from milk adulterated with melamine," said the group in a statement.

Media reports had claimed that Neslac Gold 1+ might be affected, said Nestle, but it pointed out that the Hong Kong government's food safety department had declared that the product was safe.

The product was tested by the Hong Kong Standards and Testing Centre Ltd during September 18 to 20, as well as the Food Industry Research and Development in Taiwan on September 16, said the group.

"Neither test detected melamine in the product," said the Swiss group, which added that it regularly carried out more than 70 different tests on infant formula and other milk products.

In China, four babies have died and more than 6,000 have been made sick by milk powder contaminated with melamine, according to government statements.

One of the most serious health scandals to tarnish Chinese-made goods, the melamine scare has spread from milk powder to regular milk, yoghurt and ice cream from some of China's biggest dairy manufacturers.

Would you go to dine in this place???

Do You Eat Petai?

Little did you know ...... after reading THIS, you'll NEVER look at petai in the same way again!
Petai
contains three natural sugars -sucrose, fructose and glucose. Combined with fiber, petai gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy. Research has proved that just two servings of petai provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute wor kout. No wonder petai is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes. But energy isn't the only way petai can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.
Depression:

According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND among people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating petai. This is because petai contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.
PMS(premenstrual syndrome):

Forget the pills - eat petai. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.
Anaemia:

High in iron, petai can stimulate the production of haemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anaemia.
Blood Pressure:

This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the petai industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.
Brain Power :

200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating petai at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.
Constipation:

High in fiber, including petai in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.
Hangovers:

One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a petai milkshake, sweetened with honey. The petai calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.
Heartburn:

Petai has a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating petai for soothing relief.
Morning Sickness
:
Snacking on petai between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.
Mosquito b ites
:
Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of the petai skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.
Nerves:

Petai is high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.
Overweight:

Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and crisps. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report c oncluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.
Ulcers:

Petai is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.
Temperature control
:
Many other cultures see petai as a 'cooling' fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In hoiland, for example, pregnant women eat petai to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.
Seasonal Affecti ve Disorder (SAD) :

Petai can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer, tryptophan.
Smoking:

Petai can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.
Stress:

Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium petai snack.
Strokes:

According to research in 'The New Engla nd Journal of Medicine, ' eating petai as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%'.
Warts:

Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of petai and place it on the wart. Carefully hold the petai in place with a plaster or surgical tape!
So, as you can see, petai really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrates, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around. So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, 'A Petai a day keeps the doctor away'.

Health Alert - Stop drinking those Fresh Sugar Cane Drinks !

This email was sent by a colleague whose father is
working with the Ministry of the Environment in S'pore.

A friend whose father works for the government health
inspection passed on his info. Their job is to inspect all hawkers,
their cooked food, their store hygiene, etc. They found sugar cane
juice has the highest content of bacteria among all food. In fact, it
has exceeded the set limit.

Hence, these guys had to find out why. They went round
all sugar cane stores and watched the way the hawkers handled their
sugar cane, wash their glasses, their entire procedure. But they couldn't
find the problem.

One day, they stayed till closing time and ! discovered
some shocking facts!

Whenever, the hawkers closed their stores, they would
wash the floor with detergent. As we know, the remaining sugar canes
will be placed at the back of the store, vertically standing and
as sugar canes are very porous, they tend to absorb whatever
liquid around them. Besides the soapy water, the dirt on hawkers'
boots, cats' urine, etc, will all be absorbed??

Now, whenever I eat at a hawker centre, I would warn all
my friends about this and of course I stopped drinking my favourite
sugar cane juice.

A friend, who loved sugar cane juice, was pregnant. She
was always drinking sugar cane juice. Anyway, one day she miscarried
and the fetus was already like 6 or 7 months old, I think. When
the doctors did an autopsy to find out why all of a sudden the fetus
had died inside her, they found traces of some chemical substance,
which was found in cat urine. Large traces of it. While it would
not! be able to harm adults, it was extremely toxic to babies, what
more a fetus? So they tried to determine how this cat urine thing could have ended up in the fetus. This meant that it had to be digested by the mother, right?

And the only logical conclusion they could come up with
was that since these sugar cane juice stall holders just leave the canes
lying around on the wet and dirty floor, it would not be
impossible to think that stray cats could have peed on those sugar
canes or near those sugar canes. So think carefully the next time you order that
favourite sugar cane juice!

Let's take action to make this world a better & safer place for ALL of
us & the generations to come.
